Our club competition on 20 September was a great day, bringing together 33 archers, including seven novices taking part in their first competition and six juniors. With Western and Warwick rounds across a range of distances, there was plenty of friendly competition and much to celebrate.
Congratulations to all our category winners, and to our trophy winners: Rukhsana Latif (Ladies’ Barebow), Imran Rehman (Gentlemen’s Barebow), Neill Ovenden (Gentlemen’s Recurve), John O’Keeffe (Gentlemen’s Longbow), Alex Grimshaw (Junior Boy), Libby Grimshaw (Junior Girl) and Paul Douglas (Novice). Neill also claimed Best Gold at 80 yards, while Paul Field received the Best Score Unrewarded award.
For the Novice and Best Score Unrewarded awards, scores were adjusted using the classification tables to account for bow style, round and age—so good shooting shone through, whatever the bow or distance.
The colour prizes brought some sweet success, with chocolate bars in the corresponding colours. Alex Grimshaw struck gold, Imran Rehman saw red, Safa Hussain had good reason to enjoy the blues, and Timothy Griffiths was back in black. Andy Rickard collected white, alongside the Wooden Spoon—handy if he decides to melt down his winnings! Paul Field took green, leaving the rest of us green with chocolate envy. These were certainly prizes that wouldn’t gather dust on a shelf.
A particular well done to our novices for stepping onto the competition line for the first time, and to all our juniors for their efforts. We hope this was the first of many enjoyable competitions.
Thank you to everyone who helped set up and run the day, and to everyone who took part. From trophies to chocolate, there was plenty to smile about!
